Celebrity Break-Ins: How the Rich Protect What’s Priceless

In June 2017, comedian and actor David Spade became the victim of a bold and highly targeted home burglary. While he was away from his Beverly Hills residence, intruders bypassed his home security system and made their way inside, demonstrating just how quickly even a well-located, gated property can be compromised.

What they were after was specific: a home safe, which they located and removed entirely. Inside? An estimated $80,000 in cash and jewelry, but that wasn’t the hardest loss. Among the items was a wedding band that had belonged to Spade’s late mother, a deeply sentimental piece he had kept as a family heirloom. Unlike the cash or valuables, that ring was irreplaceable.

The burglars weren’t caught, and the stolen items were never recovered.

Spade later spoke publicly about the incident, calling the loss “violating” and “personal”, a reminder that not all valuables are valuable for their price tag. Some things are locked away not because they’re worth money, but because they mean everything.

This incident highlights a critical aspect of home security:

  • A home high-security safe provides stronger protection than basic models.

  • Look for safes with biometric access (fingerprint recognition) for quick but secure entry.

  • An override key ensures you can still access the safe if the biometric system fails.

  • These features together offer extra security, making it much harder for intruders to break in.

  • Investing in a quality safe helps protect not just valuables, but items with deep emotional or sentimental value.

At ISLANDSAFE, we understand that not all threats come in the form of a break-in. That’s why our line of home safes goes beyond just theft prevention. From fireproof safes built to withstand extreme heat, to biometric safes offering quick access and override key backups for emergency situations, we’re committed to delivering extra security when it matters most.
